De Europese Centrale Bank wil tegen 2026 een eigen munt lanceren en kijkt daarbij naar bestaande blockchainnetwerken zoals Ethereum en Solana. Dat zou de invoering aanzienlijk kunnen versnellen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De Europese Centrale Bank wil de digitale euro sneller klaar hebben dan eerder gepland. Daarbij wordt niet alleen gewerkt aan eigen systemen, maar ook gekeken naar bestaande blockchainnetwerken zoals Ethereum en Solana. Dat kan de invoering versnellen, maar roept tegelijk vragen op rond privacy, controle en Europese soevereiniteit.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Waarom een digitale euro?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecb.europa.eu\/euro\/digital_euro\/html\/index.en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ECB<\/a> ziet de digitale euro als antwoord op de opkomst van stablecoins en betaaloplossingen van Big Tech. Met een eigen munt kan Europa meer controle behouden over monetair beleid en tegelijk snelle en veilige betalingen binnen de eurozone garanderen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Volgens de ECB is het bovendien een manier om financi\u00eble stabiliteit te bewaken en burgers een betrouwbaar digitaal alternatief te bieden naast contant geld.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Waarom Ethereum of Solana?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dat de ECB naar Ethereum en Solana kijkt, is opmerkelijk. Ethereum heeft het grootste ecosysteem van slimme contracten en compatibiliteit met duizenden apps. Solana staat dan weer bekend om zijn extreem snelle transacties en lage kosten.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De bank onderzoekt of private, aangepaste versies van deze netwerken gebruikt kunnen worden. Volgens <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/europe-mulls-ethereum-solana-digital-euro-launch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cointelegraph<\/a> zou dat schaalbare oplossingen mogelijk maken zonder de veiligheid of het toezicht te verliezen.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bezorgdheden en risico\u2019s<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Toch zijn er heel wat vragen. Hoe zit het met privacy, nu transacties in theorie volledig traceerbaar worden? En hoe combineer je centrale controle met de decentrale aard van blockchain?<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daarnaast spelen politieke spanningen mee: sommige landen vrezen dat een digitale euro de rol van contant geld zou verdringen. Ook waarschuwen experts voor de afhankelijkheid van externe technologie en de druk die dit kan leggen op de interne eurozoneverhoudingen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De ECB benadrukt dat de digitale euro geen vervanging wordt van contant geld maar een aanvulling die burgers meer keuzevrijheid geeft. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecb.europa.eu\/euro\/digital_euro\/html\/index.en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In offici\u00eble verklaringen<\/a> stelt de bank dat privacy de hoogste prioriteit krijgt en dat er duidelijke limieten zullen zijn op welke data door overheden of banken ingezien mogen worden.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tegelijk speelt er een geopolitieke dimensie. Met de opmars van de digitale yuan en de dominantie van de dollar wil Europa zijn eigen soevereiniteit veiligstellen in het digitale betalingsverkeer. Voor consumenten zou de digitale euro vooral betekenen dat zij via een eenvoudige app of digitale wallet overal in de eurozone veilig kunnen betalen.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Van testfase naar implementatie?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De ECB lijkt meer open dan ooit om met bestaande blockchains samen te werken. Daarmee zou de digitale euro sneller realiteit kunnen worden.
